CEDo 555 - Professional Portfolio Session 1

Our school district does not use professional profolios as this time, however, after my performance evaluation I was asked to put together a document simular to a portfolio. I am planning on utilizing what we are learning in this class to put my eportfolio together and using it for administration in my district. This could be a good example to them what can be accomplished and how it could benefit students as they proceed through school. I will be using Google Web and that is what I am promoting at work at this time. We are educating staff more on how Google docs can create a new way to work collaboratively for staff and students.

  1. Well, that's really cool that you are getting to put this class to good use right while taking it.
Have you thought about what types of features you want to use when putting together your portfolio? I know some of the portfolios we looked at were either too busy or too tricky to get around.

Also, I was wondering, do you have a lot of information/artifacts that are already of a digital nature? Or are you going to have to scan a bunch of items in?

Our district doesn't use professional portfolios, but we do make our 8th graders due portfolio presentations. They need to show artifacts and growth. The only problem is that we only do it in middle school. Unfortunately, there are no portfolios at the high schools and I'm not sure why. I think that by having digital portfolios, it will save time and money by having it all in one place. It will also encourage (I hope).

What do you think? Do you think digital portfolios will help to get more schools and students making portfolios?

  2. My school district doesn't use e-portfolios yet either, but I'm hoping I can move that process along once I show them my ePortfolio when it's done. I've been thinking for a long time how beneficial it would be for our students to start an e-portfolio in Kindergarten, and add to it every year through senior year. Can you imagine what a portfolio they would have when they finished? I am curious about how you said you were going to use Google Web. I'm not familiar with that. I was planning to use Google Sites. How are they different?
