Assignment 4 CED 510

We are in the final post for this class and the information that I have learned is outstanding. The one item that was extremely interesting is the Linux Workshop. I had no prior knowledge of alternate operating systems. This was, though a frustrating project, it was so neat to be able to download another system and actually make my current system use that alternate system over the OS that is on my computer...Windows Vista. Though these systems were similar, there were still differences. Windows did seem to have more options for the end user where the systems that I chose had more "canned" options for the end users.

The information I learned from this course will help me be a better problem solver for systems. I was not a "hardware" person before, and that is not my area of expertise, however, after learning about the inside of the computer, I see why it is so important to know this for a true tech person to be well versed. I find that this course is actually a must for this program. Instead of just learning applications, individuals must know how these applications work and function within the computer themselves.

  1. Mary,
I have never heard of a Linux before either, and I found the assignment interesting. If it weren't for this class, I would have never gone out on my own to test other operating systems. I agree that it is important to learn and know the "how" and instead of just learning the "what." It is a great experience to learn the ins and outs of computer hardware and software.

  2. I am glad to hear you found the Linux assignment interesting. It makes you actually think about the software that runs computers. I am also happy to hear you are more comfortable with the hardware. We don't need to be geeks, we just need to have a basic understanding of what is going on. Good luck with the rest of the program.
