CEDO 530 Session 1 Hopefully Learning

What I would like to get out of this class, well, I would love to learn how to make presentations more "entertaining". I create presentations in powerpoint all the time for work. I would like to learn how to even take them to the next level and incorporate things to make them even more professional and more attention getting. Having a presentation that "rocks the house" can make or break any presentation.

Another hopeful is to learn about additional presentation software instead of just Powerpoint. Though Powerpoint is one of the most popular, it is always good to learn other options as well.

  1. First of all, I love the fish!!!

I have to ask you - do you want your presentations to entertain, or do you want to get your point across in a more engaging fashion? I guess I think of the 3rd grader that is working with power point for the first time, and he makes EVERYTHING spin and fly around. It's entertaining, but you can't for the life of you figure out what he's trying to say.

  2. Denise, I couldn't agree with you more! When my son made his first powerpoint, I had to "ton it down" for him. The kids love to make the fun stuff but miss on getting the point across.

When a teach produces a presentation for students I believe they need to be entertaining but very to the point. This is what I am hoping to get out of this class...what is to much and what is to little, etc.

  3. random comment about prowerpoints and students!
One of the teachers at my school has a project were the students teach a section and they have to make a smartbaord presentation too. Well, last year the students went OVERBOARD with the "cool stuff" and the information was lost. After some brainstorming, she came up with a way to have teh kids still have fun with smartboard but not overkill on the fun features. Each kid was given a day in the computer lab to play with the software and then they could share theirs with a small group. They all got the fun features out of the way and could really focus on the assignment. This also helpedh er larn some new tricks as the students were exploring the software.
