My first class begins tonight for my Masters of Education in Instructional Technology through Cardinal Stritch University. The nerves are starting settle in. I am scared I am in over my head. I am excited but yet nervous.
During this class we learned about the different web browsers that are offered in the world of technology. I, honestly, never realized how many different web browsers there are. I use three different types but specifically stick with Internet Explorer. I have Firefox at work but tend to stay with Explorer. I am excited to get to know other browsers and see which one works best for me.
Another area discussed was social bookmarking. I only use this at work when I find information that would be useful to make the office run efficiently for the office employees. After researching and learning more about it, I would like to use it even more for other staff members. Even in the classroom to direct students (children and adults) to areas which would help educate them even further. Social bookmarking could be used for resources when lessons are being given regarding a specific topic.
An assignment that I am looking forward to this week is the comparison of Google Docs and Microsoft Word (in my case). This is interesting, I have never used Google Docs but knew of it. I am excited to see what it is about and how similar this form of online word processing is to Microsoft Word.
The class sessions are Wednesdays and I learned of the homework tonight...ready to jump in with two feet. Talk to everyone in a week, except my group!
Hey Mary - I also use social bookmarking to keep track of resources I come across. I have accounts w/both Delicious & Diggo and like both. It is nice that Louis introduced social bookmarking (& looks like will talk about it again next week) so as we are all going through this program we can use the sites to keep track of all of the neat resources we are learning about. It seems like lots of people in the cohort hadn't used social bookmarking; hopefully they will find the bookmarking sites very helpful. Have you joined any of the groups within the social bookmarking sites? I've found them to be very helpful. I'm not an active contributor to the groups but I sure have found lots of neat resources & sites while being part of the groups. I get daily email updates with all of the new sites that have been added. I only belong to about 5 groups...otherwise it would get a bit overwhelming I'm sure. That's all for now. Talk to you soon!
ReplyDeleteLet me challenge you to use Firefox more, it has some interesting capabilities that IE does not have - look into the idea of Firefox extensions as well.
ReplyDeleteThank you for the challenge for Firefox, I just downloaded it to my computer and I can see I will like this. We do have this option in our district, but never ventured to use it. Students do use it. I believe I may begin to even use at work. Thank you!
